Top Tips for Cleaning Your Kitchen Tiles

Keith Ford • Oct 19, 2021

The kitchen really is the heart of the home. From cooking and food prep to generally hanging out, the kitchen is the go to place... but this often means dirt can quickly build up on your kitchen wall and floor tiles without you realising. However, with the right technique and products, you can keep your kitchen tiles looking clean and glossy 24/7 (or at least most of the time).

Follow the cleaning tips for the floor tiles, wall tiles and grout below.

How to clean the floor tiles in your kitchen

  1. Start by hoovering the area to remove any excess dust and dirt (this will ensure you don’t spread the dirt around the kitchen).
  2. Use baking soda, vinegar and an old toothbrush for the areas in between the tiles.
  3. Finally, mop the floor tiles with warm water and a good quality floor cleaner. Here's one we recommend!
  4. Leave the floor to dry, sit back with a cup of tea and a slice of cake to enjoy your sparkling clean kitchen.

How to clean the wall tiles in your kitchen

  1. Before you start, consider the type of tile you have - for plain ceramic tiles a standard scoring pad should be okay. Avoid using a scouring pad on printed or patterned tiles (instead use a microfiber cloth or soft sponge).
  2. Use warm water, a clean cloth, and a good quality tile cleaner to scrub the dirt, grease and stains from the tiles on your wall.
  3. Wipe the tiles over with a new clean cloth and warm water (repeat the process if persistent stains remain).
  4. Then dry the kitchen tiles with a clean tea towel for a glossy professional finish.

NOTE: never use vinegar or harsh cloths on marble tiles!

How to clean the grout in your kitchen

Despite the large number of cleaning of products on the market, the common household toothbrush is recommended as the BEST tool for cleaning grout. A top tip for a cost-effective grout cleaning solution is baking soda and vinegar. No fancy products here - simply the ones you can find at home anyway!

Regular kitchen cleaning tips

  • Sweep and hoover the kitchen floor on a daily basis to make deep cleaning easier
  • Clean up spillages on kitchen tiles as soon as possible to avoid any staining occurring
  • Regularly wipe over tiles with a disinfectant and clean cloth or disinfectant wipes to avoid the build-up of germs and other nasties.
