Reasons to Keep Your Oven Clean

Keith Ford • Oct 14, 2021

The oven is one of the most used appliances in the kitchen, however is the most overlooked when it comes to cleaning. Whilst most homeowners know that it’s important to clean the oven, it's one of those jobs that gets put on the back burner and forgotten about. One of the main reasons being the oven must be cold before cleaning. And well it's a mess that's not in eye sight really, it's a hidden mess you only see when you open the oven door.

So you may notice the oven needs cleaning the last time you used it, but the job can be easily forgotten about afterward. However, neglecting this cleaning job can be dangerous, so it’s wise to understand the importance of a clean oven and schedule a time for this task or, even easier, book a professional oven cleaning appointment.

There are many important reasons to keep your oven clean, so we have listed them below for you. Check it out!

Fire Safety

Without a doubt, this is the most important reason to keep your oven clean! This is because it is much safer to cook in a nice clean oven, compared to a dirty oven. Why? Well, a dirty oven filled with grease and food debris is at a higher risk of fire compared to a clean oven. Accidental spills on the inside of the oven can begin to burn and generate fumes and smoke - so it’s best to clean up spills as soon as the oven is cold.

Avoid Contaminating Food

When you use a dirty oven, you run the risk of contaminating the food you are cooking with the grime and grease from previous meals. Regularly cleaning the oven will eliminate fat and grease build up between meals cooked and reduce the risk of contamination. You want your food to taste the way it's supposed to, right? A clean oven it is then!

Improve Efficiency

Regularly cleaning your oven will help it operate to its full capacity and for longer. Clean ovens are more energy efficient because the heat is distributed evenly with less energy needed. Plus, if your oven door is covered in grease, you will not be able to see the food inside. This will result in the oven door being opened to check on cooking. With every time the oven door is opened, heat escapes and lowers the temperature inside the oven - meaning the oven will not perform as efficiently as it would if the door remained close the whole time.

Increased Durability

Cleaning your oven will help your oven last for as long as possible. A dirty oven covered in grease and food debris needs to work much harder to heat up and maintain the cooking temperature needed. Therefore, the oven will wear out much quicker than a nice clean on. So not only will keeping your oven clean help avoid any health and safety hazards, but it will also keep your oven efficient and performing better FOR LONGER.
